Oracle’s Cloud SaaS and PaaS revenue is still second to Salesforce.com

In FY’16, Oracle plans on selling between $1.5 billion and $2 billion of new SaaS and PaaS business. In other words, the company plans to sell at least twice as much as they sold last year. And that’s at least 50% more new business than Salesforce.com will sell in their current fiscal year. And if Oracle exceeds their plan like they did this Q4, they could book twice as much new business as Saleforce.com.

Larry Ellison, Executive Chairman and CTO said, ‘Now I don’t think that’s likely that we will sell double than what Saleforce.com sells, but it’s definitely possible’. Oracle’s Cloud SaaS and PaaS revenue is still second to Salesforce.com but the management strongly believes that they are growing at a much faster rate than Salesforce.com.

Twitter has begun the process of hiring a CMO.

As of Q2 2015, Twitter had over 95% brand awareness across the most important global markets. Despite this enormous awareness, Twitter managed to achieve less than 30% penetration of users in these markets. This low level of penetration implies that Twitter has only reached early adopters and technology enthusiasts and has not yet reached the next cohort of users known as the mass market.

The management believes they have failed to do two critical things; firstly, they have not yet clearly communicated Twitter’s unique value and so that’s reflected in everything they do across product, content and marketing, and as a result, non-users can ask Why Should I Use Twitter?

Additionally, the company has not delivered on meeting the new potential user’s expectations of Twitter when they try the product. Simply said, the product remains too difficult to use. Jack Dorsey, Interim CEO believes that they need to simplify the product so everyone gets value from Twitter faster.

In short, the company has not yet communicated, ‘Why Should People Use Twitter?’ nor made it easy for them to understand, ‘How to Use Twitter?’ This is both a product issue and a marketing issue.

A lot of other products in the past have overcome these same issues and have successfully made their transition to reach the mass market adoption phase and the management seems confident they can do the same.

The management is working as rapidly as they can to put Twitter in a position to launch an integrated marketing strategy and marketing campaign before the end of 2015.

Anthony Noto, Chief Financial Officer said, ‘We have begun the process of hiring a CMO and are encouraged by the quality of candidates that we are in dialogue with’.

G is for Google

“Google is not a conventional company. We do not intend to become one.” – Larry Page

What is Alphabet Inc.?

Alphabet is a collection of companies, with Google being the large part of it. Goggle has slimmed down a bit, with the companies that are pretty far afield of their main internet products will now be contained in Alphabet instead.

Larry Page further explains about what is far afield? Good examples are health efforts: Life Sciences that works on the glucose-sensing contact lens and Calico focused on longevity. Alphabet is about businesses prospering through strong leaders and independence. In general, the model is to have a strong CEO who runs each business, with Larry Page and Sergey Brin in service to them as needed.

The Founders have always been of the view point to make smaller bets in areas that might seem very speculative or even strange when compared to the current businesses. From the start, they’ve always striven to do more, and to do important and meaningful things with the resources at their disposal.

The company is operating well today, but the Founders think that they can make it cleaner and more accountable. Hence creating a new company called Alphabet. Larry Page will be running the company as CEO with help from his capable partner, Sergey Brin as President.

Airtel: Are you 4G ready?

Bharti Airtel Limited is a leading global telecommunications company with operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa. Bharti Airtel had over 331 million customers across its operations at the end of June 2015. Airtel is expanding its fourth-generation (4G) mobile phone services to cover nearly 300 towns in the coming weeks.

Airtel Challenge: If your network is faster, we will pay your mobile bills for life.

A lot of thinking and work might have gone behind this challenge. The idiom ‘put your money where you mouth is’ fits very well in the case of Airtel with its recent introduction of 4G network in India.

Free 4G Upgrade: 4G Speeds at 3G Prices

You can now get the same data benefits as your 3G pack and enjoy superfast 4G speeds at no extra cost.

Airtel recently started off with an amazing activity on Twitter. Any user can Tweet Airtel India to find out how much time will a particular app take to download on 4G vs 3G vs 2G.

How To Take The #Airtel4GSpeedTest:
  •  THINK of an app that you would like to download
  •  TWEET with @AirtelIndia #Airtel4GSpeedTest <AppName>
  •  WITNESS how fast #Airtel4G is

So without thinking much, I went ahead and took the #Airtel4GSpeedTest.

My Tweet:

@airtelindia #Airtel4GSpeedTest Twitter

And in about 5-7 seconds Airtel India replied back to me with a Twitpic Infographic

Airtel’s Tweet:

The comparison of 4G vs 3G vs 2G was amazing. Twitter app is 26.36 MB and on 4G network, one can download it in 23 seconds, simply amazing speed. As a user, the best part of the whole thing is, I get a free 4G upgrade, same data benefits as my 3G pack and enjoy superfast 4G speed at no extra cost.

Now the question is,

Got a 4G phone? Want Airtel 4G? Tweet using #GetAirtel4G for a free SIM delivered to your home. They deliver the sim in less than 4 hours. Amazing, isn’t it?

Take the #Airtel4GSpeedTest today and #GetAirtel4G delivered to you for free.

So What Should You Expect From Twitter?

Jack Dorsey wants Twitter to be the first thing everyone in the world checks to start off their day.

You should expect Twitter to:
  • Be as easy as looking out your window to see what’s happening.
  • Show you what’s most meaningful in the world to live it first before anyone else and straight from the source.
  • Keep you informed and updated throughout your day.
  • Be the most powerful microphone in the world.
  • Increase your reach
  • Encourage live and direct conversation and participation around whatever you share.

Jack Dorsey, Interim CEO, Twitter said ‘If we meet these expectations, and we will, Twitter will become the first thing everyone in the world checks to start their day and the first thing people turn to when they want to share ideas, commentary, or simply what’s happening'.

Wish I Could Relive the Past

Wish I could Relive the Past, Wish there was no need to find a Path
Wish there were no growing Pains, no Fear of falling Apart
Wish a Life with no more Lies, where Love would all Suffice
Success would never Matter and Failure could never Shatter
For who feel Life's a Race, for them Feelings can never Matter
Feeling is all I care, Endurance is all I have Mastered
I wish to walk throughout, can't afford to just pass it out
We could all just be together, no more reasons to turn our back,
Life's a Different Ball Game, You Either Learn or Give it Back.

#Rehmatein2 - A Spectacular Musical Night Paying Tribute To The Legendary Ghazal Singer, Padmabhushan Jagjit Singh

Rehmatein is an initiative by Sangeetam a Charitable Trust that helps the artists of the music fraternity by providing monetary support to them. Sangeetam also has a motive of supporting and helping aspiring singers and musicians by giving them scholarships and training by the maestros from the music industry.

Stalwarts of Indian Music Industry Hariharan, Anup Jalota, Shaan, Javed Ali, Babul Supriyo and Suresh Wadkar sang many beautiful and mesmerizing ghazals of Jagjit Singh ji to a Houseful Musical Evening at Shanmukhananda Hall, Sion, Mumbai.

Smita Parikh, CEO at E-Bizz Entertainment said, “Team E-Bizz Entertainment thanks all the artists who performed at the evening and to all the guests, music lovers and all our sponsors and partners, because of all your support, we call #Rehmatein2 to be a grand success and gave us confidence to make upcoming #Rehmatein3”.

A lot of buzz was created via social media about the event in the form of Contests and #TweetChats with artists Javed Ali and Hariharan using the hashtags #AskYourArtist and #Rehmatein2 respectively.

#TweetChat with sensational Javed Ali was facilitated by @WeMaharashtra in association with Rehmatein 2 and Contest and #AskYourArtist with Hariharan was facilitated by @ArtistAloud.

The level of engagement seen for Tweet Chat as well as the Contest was mind blowing. It might have been tough for the artists to keep up with the enthusiasm of their fans, given the immense flow of questions being shot at them, but all the questions were patiently and beautifully answered. All-in-all, it was a great session with Javed Ali and Hariharan.

July 17th
Finally the day arrived to witness the extraordinary ghazal night we have all been waiting for, with performances by the Stalwarts of Indian Music Industry: Anup Jalota, Hariharan, Shaan, Javed Ali, Babul Supriyo and Suresh Wadkar.

The event took off with introduction and more information about Sangeetum and #Rehmatein2 by our host for the night Mr. Pankaj Dubey, Penguin India Best Seller Author and Film-maker, Former Broadcaster with BBC London.

Hariharan handing over a Health Insurance Policy to a musician, on behalf of the Sangeetum Trust to support the musicians.

Before the performances began, our host Mr. Pankaj Dubey shared an interesting fact about Javed Ali; saying that the last time when Javed Ali did an official ghazal performance, which was also his first, he was only 14 years old, and that today was the second time he was going to officially sing the ghazals that too paying tribute to the legendary Jagjit Singh.
What a night to start with.

Javed Ali paid his tribute by singing the ghazal named 'Shaam Se Aankh Mein Nami Si Hai' and then came the epic, 'Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya'. By this time, the crowd had already surrendered and entered the world of Javed Ali, a different zone altogether.

My personal favorite was the third ghazal, which I had never heard of, 'Mausam Ka Armaan Samajh'. This really touched my heart.

Had to dig a lot to find this audio sung by Jagjit Singh ji, another live performance. Enjoy with lyrics :)

Lyrics:
Mausam ka armaan samajh
Kuchh toh meri jaan samajh
Jisme tera pyaar na ho
Us dil ko veeran samajh
Gurbat ki tauheen na kar
Muflis ko insaan samajh
Duniya ke har rishte ko
Do din ki pahchaan samajh
Laa main tera Ved padhu
Tu meri Quraan samajh
Gar majboot iraada hai

Har mushkil aasaan samajh

The last ghazal sung by Javed Ali was:
'Dard se mera daaman bhar de ya Allah, Phir chahe deewana kar de ya Allah....'

Suresh Wadkar ji took over the stage and started with 'Hazaaron khwahishen aisi ke har khwahish pe dam nikle' and 'Chithi Na Koi Sandesh' then came a ghazal, which had the audience humming and clapping to the tunes of Suresh ji, it was 'Kal Chaudhvin Ki Raat Thi'

'Kal chaudvin ki raat thi
Shab bhar raha charcha tera
Kal chaudvin ki raat thi
Kuch ne kaha yeh chaand hai
Toh Kuch ne kaha chehra tera'.

The minute Babul Supriyo came onto the stage, he brought humor along. He started off with 'Sarkati Jaye Hai Rukh Se Naqab' and then 'Hothon Se Chhoo Lo Tum' made the crowd sing along the tunes of Babul Supriyo.

Hariharan ji sang 'Kaise Chhupaon Raaz-E-Gham' paying tribute to Mehdi Hassan, a Pakistani ghazal singer and a former playback singer for Lollywood; one of the greatest and most influential figures in the history of ghazal.

Mr. Saurabh Daftary, Founder and Chairman of E-Bizz, a big fan of Jagjit Singh ji, couldn't resist and joined Hariharan on stage and entertained the audience with his exceptional voice, singing his favorite ghazal.

It was great to see Shaan perform and the audience was all excited to hear him. When he began with 'Tumko Dekha Toh Yeh Khayal Aaya' the crowd started humming.

Anup Jalota ji shared that, 'Ashiqui 2 bhi toh aayi thi, #Rehmatein2 bhi hona chahiye, zarur chalegi'.

He began with this ghazal,
'Bade Mashhoor hote jaa rahe hoo,
Sabhi se duur hote jaa rahe hoo,
Humare hee liye fursat nahi hai,
Bade majboor hote jaa rahe hoo'.
He further added,
'Ek do Sher aur dedete,
Bade Kanjoos hote jaa rahe hoo'

Anup ji sang three ghazals, after which he said, 'Now you all leave otherwise I will start singing Bhajans'. Really enjoyed his performance. He kept cracking jokes in between the ghazals.

His last ghazal for the night was, 'Ye Daulat Bhi Le Lo'

But what really touched my heart was, he changed a few words from this ghazal, paying tribute to Jagjit Singh ji,

'Ye daulat bhii le lo, ye shoharat bhii le lo
Bhale chhiin lo mujhase merii javaanii
Magar mujhako lautaa do Jagjit Wapas,
Vo Ghazale Purani, Vo Shaame Suhaani'.

In the end, all of them came together for a collective performance, together sang

'Zindagii mein to sabhii pyaar kiyaa karte hain,
Main tau mar kar bhii merii jaan tujhe chaahuungaa'
